This window was drawn and painted before the Café du Marché was renovated (after the year 2000).The café lies in the centre of Carouge next to the Place du Marché, where a market selling local produce is still held every Wednesday and Saturday. This part of Carouge was built in the second half of the 18th century by the King of Sardinia, with the buildings modelled on a Mediterranean style around the existing trade routes into the city of Geneva.
The Café du Marché is one of many cafés and restaurants in this area, many of which must have welcomed travellers and locals over the centuries.
When living in Carouge I took great pleasure in searching out the old, atmospheric corners ! Since then there have been many changes and renovations. I am pleased that I have managed to create and keep a slice of the past.
