A view of the snowy dome of the Roc d’Orzival in Winter from the village of Chandolin. Roc d ‘Orzival (2853m) is a mountain of the Val d’Anniviers, Switzerland. The word anniviers is believed to be derived from the latin « ad nives » - in the snow. Orzival is an old word for pasture.

The rock on the left is the Roc de la Tsa (2822m). Tsa, in the local dialect means the highest pastureland, where cattle would be taken in August. At this time of year in the snow the cows are in the stables down below, leaving the wild winter slopes to the chamois and mountain hares.
