One can admire these strange, rusty red drawings on the wall of an old building in the village of Vissoie. They depict the tools of a blacksmith and bear the dates 1514,1580 and 1592. They decorate the entrance to a forge where in past times the blacksmith would have plied his trade shoeing mules and fabricating the other necessary items of the day. The first time I saw this lovely arch and the surrounding « magical » symbols I had to draw it !
Vissoie is still an important cross roads in the Val d’Anniviers, Switzerland but in times past was also an important centre for craft and trade.
